The Poet     The Reader

#1: ‘The Conversation’

The Reader is included in the liminal space of the poem, they are addressed by the poet.

You, Reader by Billy Collins

#2: ‘The Letter’

The Reader is a witness to the Poet addressing a specific subject; elegies often take this form.
This can be a person, or it can be an Ode to an inanimate entity.

Observable in:  Ode on a Grecian Urn, by John Keats

#3: ‘The Proclamation’

This poem has the atmosphere of a broadcast, it is public, the reader is a part of the public.

The Hill We Climb, by Amanda Gorman

#4: ‘The Meditation’

Environment-based as opposed to about an entity.
Here the Reader watches the Poet meditate in the Environment they are bringing to life.

#5: ‘The Story’

This type of Poem moves with both the Reader and the Poet standing outside of its contents, looking on. They share the space of external narration.

#6: ‘The Invitation’

The Reader is invited within the poetic space that exists in intimacy with the Poet.
This is a vulnerable and private space.
